The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Bartow, Cherokee, and Polk Counties from 10 a.m. today to 7 a.m. tomorrow. They expect snow accumulation to reach up to two inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Prepare for slippery road conditions, which will affect Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes. Road impacts are anticipated even with low snow accumulations and shortly after precipitation begins. Please slow down and use caution while traveling.

For the latest road conditions in Georgia, call 511. This advisory coincides with a cold weather advisory in effect until 9 a.m. today and from 10 p.m. until 9 a.m. tomorrow across the state, where the NWS expects frigid wind chills. Prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures can result in hypothermia.

When outside, use caution, and remember to wear appropriate clothing, including a hat and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible and check frequently on older family members, friends, and neighbors. Ensure correct usage of portable heaters, and remember: do not use generators or grills indoors.

Due to Governor Brian Kemp’s state of emergency declaration and the potential for severe weather, the Bartow County School System has decided to cancel school and all extracurricular activities today. Only 12-month or 236-day employees should report to work. Please note that today will not be a digital learning day, so students will not have any assignments or online work to complete. The school system hopes this decision allows your family to stay safe and warm at home during this unpredictable weather.

Cartersville City Schools will also be closed today due to the State of Emergency. Staff members who work 240 days should report when possible. They appreciate your understanding and hope your family stays warm!

Excel Christian Academy will be closed today due to the state of emergency declared by Governor Brian Kemp and the anticipation of potential icy conditions developing during the school day. ECA has also canceled all extracurricular activities.

As a precaution, Georgia Highlands College will operate remotely today, and all classes and operations will continue virtually. Similarly, Chattahoochee Tech will implement modified operations and virtual learning for all campuses. Faculty and staff will be working remotely and can assist students via email.
