More information has come out regarding a moped accident that led to the driver being airlifted to Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga on Tuesday.

Georgia State Patrol states that 39-year-old Kelly Farison of Canton was driving the moped westbound on East Valley Road just west of Maple Lane (east of U.S. 411) near Rydal at around 4:16 p.m. 48-year-old Robert Johnson of Rydal was driving a 2004 Ford F-Series Super Duty truck eastbound on East Valley Road.

The moped traveled across the center lane, causing Johnson to make an evasive maneuver to his right to avoid a head-on collision. The moped’s left side still struck the truck’s left side, causing the moped to overturn onto its driver’s side.

When Bartow County EMS arrived on the scene, Farison was lying face down with a weak pulse and a severe head injury. He was airlifted. Johnson was not injured.

After the investigation, Farison has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, no proof of insurance, suspended registration, felony possession of marijuana, two counts of misdemeanor marijuana possession, and driving with a suspended license.
