Cartersville Police released the identity of a suspect involved in a shootout with officers responding to an accident.
Officers responded to the area of Joe Frank Harris Parkway southbound and Market Place Boulevard at around 3:08 this afternoon.
While en route, witnesses relayed that a male was walking in the roadway with a gun.
When officers arrived, the male reportedly opened fire upon the Cartersville Police officers, and they returned fire.
The gunfire did not strike the officers or the male suspect. Police regained control of the situation and took the male into custody.
Cartersville Police identified the suspect in the shooting as 37-year-old Shane Jacquez Barfield of Cartersville. Barfield received the following charges: three counts of aggravated assault upon peace officers, theft by receiving stolen property (firearm), possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of methamphetamine.
