We have learned that the child that died in the fatal crash on U.S. 411 near Industrial Park Road on Sunday afternoon was 2-year-old Cairo Jackson of Rockmart.

A grey Dodge Avenger was traveling south beyond Industrial Park Road in Cartersville. Four vehicles were traveling north on U.S. 411, approaching the Avenger.

The driver of the Avenger lost control, and the car entered the northbound lanes. It struck a Nissan Versa on the left side with its front, and the impact rotated the Avenger into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado struck the left side of the Avenger with its front. The impact caused the Silverado to hit the left side of a Kia Sorento with its right side. The Silverado continued rotating counterclockwise and came to an uncontrolled rest on the east shoulder of U.S. 411. A Chevrolet Trailblazer could not avoid striking the Silverado and hit it on the left side with its front.

A couple of witnesses claim that the Avenger’s high rate of speed led to the car rotating into the opposite lane out of control. The roadway was wet from recent rain.

The driver of the Avenger, 23-year-old Brandasia Jackson, and her six-year-old male passenger were not restrained and taken by Metro EMS to Floyd Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. Her 2-year-old female passenger that perished, Cairo Jackson, was in a child restraint system but was improperly secured. No one was ejected or trapped, but the airbag where Cairo was sitting on the rear left seat did not deploy.

None of the nine occupants of the other four vehicles suffered any apparent injuries.

The Georgia State Patrols Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is still investigating the crash. They will determine the appropriate charges, if any, after their investigation.

We will pass along additional information as we get it.
