We have an update on our story from Sunday morning about a man being removed from a roof. Bartow County deputies, fire, and EMS were dispatched to a residence on Benfield Circle in Cartersville in reference to a man possibly overdosing on Fentanyl.
Before anyone arrived, dispatch told first responders that the man was running on foot in the area and was seen at Citgo Short N Easy on Grassdale Road. When approached by a deputy at Citgo, the man ran to McDonald’s at Joe Frank Harris Parkway.
When the deputy tried to get the man to go to the ambulance there, he crossed Joe Frank Harris Parkway through traffic and climbed onto the roof of VJ’s Tobacco Mart. While on the roof, he identified himself as Gregory Brian Elrod of Taylorsville. Elrod was wanted for two counts of simple battery from December 3rd and felony violation of probation from December 5th.
With a ladder provided by the fire department, deputies arrested him on the roof. He was found to have a bag of over 29 grams of methamphetamine. Using a fire department bucket truck, deputies got him off the roof and into an ambulance, where he was taken to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment while in custody.
Elrod was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
