On Thursday, May 22nd, a serious incident occurred when a tractor-trailer became stuck on a railroad crossing in Emerson, leading to a collision with a northbound train. At approximately 1:15 PM, an Emerson Police Officer observed the tractor-trailer stuck on the railroad crossing at Gaston Westbrook Avenue. The officer promptly called 911 to inform CSX about the situation and to request they stop any trains approaching the junction.
About three minutes after the officers arrived, the northbound train collided with the passenger side of the tractor. This impact caused both the tractor and its trailer to overturn. The trailer was carrying non-flammable tar. Fortunately, the truck driver, Floyd Muncy from West Virginia, was outside the vehicle during the collision. There were no reported injuries to him, the train conductor, or the engineer. Muncy received citations for failing to obey a traffic control device and violating railroad grade crossing restrictions.
