On a tense afternoon in Cartersville, police were called to conduct a welfare check that escalated into a prolonged standoff.

Yesterday, at approximately 11:56 AM, the Cartersville Police Department responded to the 175 Main Luxury Apartments near the Main Street Market Place to conduct a welfare check at the request of a third party. Upon arriving, 27-year-old Jonathan Blake Sentell produced a firearm and pointed it at the two responding officers. He then retreated into his apartment and refused to comply with their commands.

After extensive negotiations lasting about six hours, the Cartersville Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team, with assistance from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, successfully took Sentell into custody. Jonathan Sentell has been charged with aggravated assault against a public safety officer.

On behalf of Chief Frank McCann, the Cartersville Police Department expresses gratitude to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, the Cartersville Fire Department, and Metro EMS for their assistance in bringing this incident to a peaceful resolution.
