Bartow County deputies, fire, and EMS were dispatched to a residence on Old Tennessee Highway in White Monday at 4:38 a.m. in reference to a gunshot victim.

The victim was lying in the front yard of his residence, groaning in pain, with his chest area covered in blood. Once the victim’s shirt was removed, a deputy observed a single gunshot wound approximately five inches below his right collar bone.

The victim stated the following occurred between 3:00 and 3:30: He was walking home on U.S. Highway 411 from visiting his cousin when an unknown male driving a dark blue or black Chevy S-10 pickup truck drove up to him between Whispering Pine Lane and Stamp Creek Road. A young and light-skinned black male leaned out of the passenger side window and fired a single gunshot at him from what appeared to be a handgun. The vehicle drove away.

The victim called 911 while walking home before eventually collapsing in his front yard. He was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for further treatment.
