In conjunction with the Bartow County Board of Education Police Department, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office announced a new speed detection camera system.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, this system was installed by Altumint Group recently in the school zone area of the Mission Road Elementary School. The cameras went live on Monday.

A recent traffic speed study in this area showed excessive speed zone infractions during posted school hours that put students, faculty, and others at risk. The safety of students and school employees is the BCSO’s priority for school zone safety.

This system will only be operational during posted school hours. It will not be active when students are not in school, such as during observed holidays and summer breaks. Speed violators will receive a citation in the mail. The penalties for speed violations will be $75 for the first offense and $125 for any subsequent infractions after the first. Each violation will also require payment of a $25 processing fee in addition to the fine.

School zone speed limits for this area are posted at 25 mph when the yellow lights are flashing and 35 mph when the lights are not flashing.

Sheriff Millsap asks drivers to please slow down and help keep our children safe for this and all school zone areas in our community!
