Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton confirmed that 26-year-old Demario Calhoun of Canton died in an accident between his motorcycle and a Bartow County school bus carrying five high school students on Monday afternoon.

According to crash debris and witness statements, at around 4:14, a Kawasaki Ninja and the bus were traveling east on Gilreath Road approaching Peeples Valley Road when Calhoun improperly passed the bus in a no-passing zone, resulting in the right side of the bike hitting the front left side of the bus.

The impact caused Calhoun to lose control, and the Ninja traveled off the north shoulder of Gilreath Road and came to an uncontrolled rest.

The bus stopped in the eastbound lane of Gilreath Road.

Neither the bus driver nor the students were injured, and there was minimal damage to the bus. Students on the bus were either released to parents at the scene or Bartow County School Police transported them home.

We are still awaiting the official accident report from the Georgia State Patrol. If we learn anything new of significance, we will update the story.
