Bartow County deputies were dispatched to a residence on Spruce Lane in Cartersville on Monday afternoon in reference to a domestic dispute.

The alleged victim stated that her and her boyfriend Byron Pope got into a verbal argument inside a camper on the property that became physical. She said she tried to scream for help, but Pope placed his hands over her nose and mouth, preventing her from screaming or breathing, while being held down on a bed.

She said Pope struck her in the mouth with his knee, causing a tooth to be knocked out. She broke free and tried to call a friend before he took her phone in order to prevent her from calling police.

She said while walking towards the main residence, Pope came up from behind, picked her up, and slammed her towards the ground. Pope allegedly said that she was not going to send him back to prison and fled on foot. She refused medical attention.

Warrants have been secured for the arrest of Byron Pope for aggravated assault by strangulation, family violence battery, aggravated battery, and obstructing or hindering a person making an emergency telephone call.
