Georgia State Patrol troopers arrested a 36-year-old Bartow County man Monday afternoon, charging him with driving under the influence of alcohol and first-degree homicide by vehicle following a deadly crash that claimed the life of an eight-year-old child.
Deputies booked Jeran Scott Ariel Lawrence into the Bartow County Jail on the charges. Investigators say Lawrence was behind the wheel of a 2008 Dodge Charger and under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred.
According to preliminary findings from GSP Post 3 – Cartersville, the incident happened around 3:42 p.m. Monday, May 4th, on Amberidge Drive. The child was sliding down a private driveway on a sled when Lawrence, traveling northbound, turned left into the private drive and struck the child with the undercarriage of his vehicle.
This incident remains an active investigation.
