Evan Reed Daves

A traffic stop for a minor violation turned into a foot chase and property damage in Cartersville on Monday night.

An officer observed a license plate on a 2001 silver Hyundai Santa Fe with no tag light and conducted a traffic stop in the Staples parking lot at around 8:42 p.m.

When the officer exited the patrol vehicle to make contact, the passenger left the SUV and fled on foot into the woods behind Knights Inn towards East Church Street. Cartersville Police later identified the suspect as 24-year-old Evan Reed Daves of Blairsville. While the officer searched for Daves, the Santa Fe’s driver successfully fled the scene. The Tokyo Japanese Steak and Sushi manager called 911 about a white man matching Daves’ description that entered his restaurant, entered the women’s bathroom and hadn’t exited.

The officer entered the restroom, announced Cartersville Police, and saw that one stall was closed and locked. Upon looking in the stall, the officer saw no one inside with ceiling tiles knocked down on the floor. A short time later, officers located Daves in the ceiling and advised him to come down. Daves did so, and an officer arrested him.

Evan Daves received charges for criminal damage to property in the second degree and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
