Joshua Michael Barrett

A man believed to be at-fault for a serious accident in Bartow County recently was booked into the jail.

A 2018 Tesla Model 3, driven by 29-year-old Joshua Barrett of Woodstock, was traveling in the center lane of I-75 northbound on Monday night at around nine o’clock. A 2002 Chevy Avalanche, driven by 52-year-old James Hester of Cartersville, was traveling in the left lane of I-75 northbound.

A Georgia State Patrol investigation states that Barrett drove too fast for conditions, changed into the left lane, and followed the Avalanche too closely.

The front right of the Tesla struck the left rear of the Avalanche and traveled off the west shoulder of the road.  The Tesla then traveled back onto the roadway and rotated clockwise across all lanes of travel before coming to rest on the east shoulder facing north.

The Avalanche traveled across all lanes of travel after impact, rotated clockwise, overturned onto its left side, and struck several trees off the east shoulder before coming to a final rest on its left side facing south off the east shoulder.

Hester was airlifted to Grady Hospital.

Joshua Barrett was booked into the Bartow County Jail for possession and use of drug related objects, possession of a controlled substance in schedule one, failure to maintain lane, following too closely, driving too fast for conditions, possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a passenger area, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and serious injury by vehicle.
