Cartersville police arrested a 26-year-old Rome man Wednesday night after he allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at another man outside Big Mama’s Laundry on North Tennessee Street and threatened to shoot him.

According to the police report, officers responded at 11:53 on October 21st to a report of an ongoing fight. Dispatch advised that a white male in a black hoodie and backpack had pointed a firearm at the caller.

Bartow County deputies detained Tanner Lawrence Davis. Officers recovered a loaded Colt 1911 pistol from his waistband with a round chambered and the safety off. His backpack held an extra loaded magazine and two boxes of .45-caliber ammunition.

The victim told police Davis interjected into a conversation, yelled at him, displayed the gun in his waistband, then pointed it at him and said, “I will shoot you.” The victim said he feared for his life and called 911. A witness confirmed the argument but did not see the gun.

Davis denied pointing the pistol. He claimed he was protecting another man he described as his uncle. Officers noted he smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. He later told jail staff he had been drinking vodka.

Police charged Davis with aggravated assault with a firearm and transported him to the Bartow County Jail.
