Local museums across Cartersville invite everyone to a variety of programs this week.

The Booth Western Art Museum hosts a three-day portrait workshop with artist Bart Lindstrom. The workshop runs today through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Participants learn full-color alla prima portrait techniques, color mixing based on complementary color theory, and work from live models with direct guidance from Lindstrom. For details or registration, contact the Booth Museum.

On Thursday evening, the Bartow History Museum presents an evening lecture titled “Underwater Ghost Towns of North Georgia.” Author and historian Lisa M. Russell speaks from 7 to 8 p.m. about the communities submerged by the region’s man-made lakes. Russell draws from her book of the same name and shares stories of displaced families, relocated cemeteries, and remnants that reappear during droughts. Tickets are available through the Bartow History Museum website or by calling the museum.

Friday evening, the Savoy Automobile Museum offers family-friendly activities. From 5:30 to 8:30, the museum hosts Trunk or Treat for kids. Children in costume visit seven selected vehicles to collect candy, take part in an ACME-sponsored make-and-take model car activity, and enjoy games. The event is weather-permitting; if it rains, the museum moves outdoor activities indoors. Visitors who buy tickets online by Thursday get a $2 discount.

At 7 p.m. the same evening, the museum screens the 1992 film “Batman Returns” in its presentation theatre. The PG-13 movie runs two hours and six minutes. Seating is first-come, first-served and included with museum admission. Food and drink are not allowed in the theatre.

These programs give Bartow County residents opportunities to explore art, local history, and family entertainment at the Booth, Bartow History, and Savoy museums this week. Check each museum’s website for tickets and the latest updates.
