A local man was indirectly involved in a fatal pedestrian accident in Cobb County early Monday morning.

Preliminary information from Cobb County Police investigators indicates that 52-year-old Mark Strow of Alpharetta stopped his blue Ford Explorer behind a disabled black Chevy Impala driven by 36-year-old Elvis James Jr. of Cartersville in the third lane from the right side emergency shoulder on I-75 northbound, just south of Delk Road in Marietta.

After activating a set of white strobe lights he had on his SUV, Strow got out and put on a reflective traffic vest. Moments after doing so, a purple 2006 Chevy Cobalt driven by 22-year-old Courtney McClellan of Kennesaw struck the rear of the SUV, causing it to collide with Strow.

Strow died at the scene, James was not injured, and McClellan was transported by ambulance to Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries.

Charges are expected to be filed in this case and anyone with information which may assist investigators is asked to call 770-499-3987.
