Bartow County fire crews are on high alert today after a wildfire ignited near Lake Allatoona.
Firefighters spent the morning battling a six-acre blaze on Brandy Lane Southeast. The Georgia Forestry Commission confirmed just after noon that crews have reached 100-percent containment, but the danger is far from over.
Statewide drought conditions are creating a powder keg across North Georgia. Because of that risk, Bartow County Fire and Emergency Services is issuing an immediate, countywide burn ban for all of unincorporated Bartow and the cities of Adairsville, Emerson, Euharlee, Kingston, Taylorsville, and White.
The ban prohibits all outdoor burning—including yard debris and land clearing—until April 30th. Fire officials tell us they are stretched thin as local resources help fight even larger wildfires currently raging in South Georgia.
Chiefs urge you to dispose of smoking materials properly and avoid any activity that creates sparks. If you see or smell smoke, do not wait—call 9-1-1 immediately.
