The Cobb County Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident which involved a Bartow County man that occurred on I-75 Northbound in Marietta at around 1:38 Thursday morning.

The preliminary investigation reveals that 46-year-old Abdul Malik Brooks of Marieta, operating a white Suzuki sport bike, was traveling northbound on I-75 when a commercial truck began encroaching into the lane occupied by the sport bike. As Brooks attempted to avoid a collision, the motorcycle’s swing arm failed, causing Brooks to lose control.

The rear wheel assembly separated from the sport bike as Brooks was separated from the sport bike. The sport bike and Brooks came to a final uncontrolled rest in the northbound travel lanes.

A Mack tractor truck, operated by Kevin Sinyard of Kingston, was travelling north on I-75 approaching the crash scene. Mr. Sinyard’s vehicle struck Brooks lying in the roadway.

Brooks was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unclear if he was fatally injured due to the initial accident or the secondary collision.

The first commercial truck did not stop and has not been identified. Mr. Sinyard did not stop at the scene either, but called police upon realizing his vehicle had collided with Brooks.

No charges are expected to be filed.

This collision remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
