To ease Thanksgiving traffic congestion statewide, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced the suspension of construction-related lane closures on heavily traveled interstate highways and state routes. The closures will be from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Monday. The statewide lane restrictions help to reduce traffic congestion during the Thanksgiving holiday. Similar suspensions will be in place for Christmas and New Year’s.

While GDOT will suspend the road closures, the department reminds travelers to exercise caution. Crews may still work near highways, and safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures to remain in place. Also, incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary on any route.
