The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of a South Carolina man following a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Bartow County.
At the request of the Georgia State Patrol and the Adairsville Police Department, GBI agents are examining the death of 40-year-old Nicholas Marino of Graniteville, South Carolina.
Preliminary information shows that around 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, Georgia State Patrol troopers spotted a truck matching the description from a South Carolina BOLO for Marino. Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the southbound side of Interstate 75 at Exit 306. Immediately after the stop, Marino shot himself inside his truck. Authorities pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Officials have transported Marino to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be conducted. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
