On Friday, December 9, 2022, Gregory Alan Anderson, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 65 years. Greg was born July 3, 1957, to the parents of Joseph (deceased) and Carol Anderson. He graduated from Gilmer County High School in Ellijay, GA, and received a Bachelor of Parks and Recreation from North Georgia College (the University of North Georgia).

Greg began his professional career as the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation at Dellinger Park in Cartersville, Georgia, under the supervision of W.K. Gentry. At the retirement of Mr. Gentry, the Cartersville City Council approved Greg as the new Director. During his tenure, Greg saw the expansion of Dellinger Park to include new softball and soccer fields, gymnastic programs, the Senior Aquatic program, bike paths, and hiking trails. Greg enjoyed his 38 years with the City of Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department and often stated he never had a bad day.

Greg was extensively involved with several boards and programs that benefitted children and families. The Bartow/Cartersville Green Space initiative, Georgia Parks and Rec Athletic Committee, Etowah Valley Credit Union board, and the Bartow United Way, to name a few. He often stated, “if it was good for kids, it was worth doing.”

Throughout his employment tenure, Greg received numerous awards. The most memorable before his death was the Cartersville City Council’s action to rename the Pine Mountain Trail to the Greg Anderson Trail System at Pine Mountain. He was incredibly honored and appreciative of the award.

Greg leaves behind his wife, Kathy, with whom he was married for 31 plus years; Nicolas Anderson, son; Carol Anderson, mother; Jeff Anderson, brother; Hope Cantrell, sister (Ron); and many nieces and nephews. He loved his family, and he will be sorely missed by all those he had to leave behind.

A Celebration of Life Service will occur at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, 2022, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Harris officiating. The interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, December 15, 2022, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

Instead of flowers, Greg and his family request donations to the Bartow County United Way.
