The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an independent inquiry into an officer-involved shooting that took place in Bartow County last night, resulting in the death of 50-year-old Carrie Hall. The inquiry is at the request of the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that Carrie Hall, who was from Cartersville, arrived at a home in Bartow County and fired a gun. The homeowner, who knew Hall, identified her and provided her name to the responding deputies.

Around 8:40 p.m., Bartow County deputies, with assistance from an officer with the Cartersville Police Department, located Hall’s vehicle at the intersection of State Route 20 and Conference Center Drive and initiated a felony traffic stop. During the encounter, Hall exited the vehicle while armed with a gun and did not comply with repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon. In response, deputies and officers fired their weapons, striking Hall. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be submitted to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.

WBHF will provide updates on this story as more information becomes available.
