The Euharlee City Council approved two zoning amendments Tuesday night on a 4-0 vote.
Council members amended the city’s data center ordinance to require tree preservation and to protect electric franchise fee revenue. Councilmember Tim Abbott praised the process, noting six public hearings and multiple edits based on public feedback. He said the city set stricter standards than the county and agreed to revisit the rules as conditions change. The council also approved an amendment limiting the distance between gas stations to one mile.
At the start of the work session, Mayor Craig Guyton announced the death of former Euharlee councilmember and police officer David Duncan. The city’s Facebook page said Duncan volunteered his time with the Covered Bridge Players, the Euharlee Pow-Wow, and the Euharlee Festival of Trees. Officials described his years of service as a life dedicated to making Euharlee a better place to live, work, and raise a family, adding that his impact will continue for years. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
