A short police chase in downtown Cartersville Saturday night caused damage, and some areas were literally in the dark.

At 9:17, a silver Nissan Titan failed to stop for a DUI road check and accelerated at a high rate of speed, traveling east on W Cherokee Avenue. Troopers activated their emergency equipment to get the driver to stop. However, as they were catching up to the Titan, the driver lost control and overturned multiple times before striking a utility pole, causing much damage.

The driver was life-flighted to Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

The Cartersville Electric Department had to work through the night to restore power.

This information is preliminary and could change as the investigation progresses or new information emerges.
