Cartersville Police arrested 21-year-old Brandon Robert Bohanan of Cartersville early Tuesday morning after a dangerous vehicle chase.

At about 2:28, an officer spotted a black Infiniti I35 in the parking lot of Citgo at 1204 West Avenue stolen out of Polk County. As the officer followed the car out of the gas station, waiting for backup, it turned onto Henderson Drive and right onto Old Mill Road in an apparent circle while plotting to flee.

Once two other CPD units arrived on Douthit Ferry Road, the initial officer turned on the blue lights. The suspect immediately accelerated past the stop sign at Pine Grove Road at a high rate of speed, over 120 miles per hour. At the intersection of Old Alabama Road, the Infiniti reduced speeds to about 90 miles per hour but struck the median at the beginning of Cartersville Grove Boulevard.

The suspect vehicle sustained damage to the front end and popped the passenger side front tire. The Infiniti continued up the hill on Carter Grove Blvd on the wrong side of the road at around 100 miles per hour. The suspect vehicle crossed over to the right side of the road as it approached the end of Carter Grove Blvd at the dead end. At the end of the street, the Infiniti jumped the median back onto the wrong travel lanes and struck the curb. The initial officer pulled up to the door of the suspect vehicle and unholstered a handgun, giving commands for Bohanan to show his hands.

Officers extracted Bohanan from the car through the driver’s side window and placed him under arrest. Bohanan had warrants out of Bartow County for terroristic threats and acts and a probation violation. Bohanan stated that he met the vehicle owner through Facebook and met with her. He said that he grabbed her keys, stole her car, and painted it to attempt to hide it.

Bohanan stated that he was attempting to eat his methamphetamine during the pursuit but spilled it on the floorboard. Officers found suspected meth and a cut white pill.

Officers took Bohanan to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, where physicians medically cleared him. They then took him to the Bartow County Jail. He received multiple charges, including theft by receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, and fleeting or attempting to elude a police officer.
