Wednesday morning, Cartersville firefighters and community members gathered at Fire Station #5 in Carter Grove to celebrate a beloved tradition. They welcomed three new fire apparatus into service with a ceremonial push-in.
As part of the ceremony, firefighters first sprayed down the new trucks using water from the older apparatus they replaced. Then, firefighters and community members joined together to push the new vehicles into the station bay for the very first time, officially bringing them into service.
The Cartersville City Council approved the purchase of these apparatuses before construction even began on Station 5.
Each apparatus costs approximately $780,000. By purchasing the trucks ahead of time, the City Council saved the city about $96,000 — not including an additional discount for buying the trucks as a package — before prices increased.
Tune into our newscasts on Thursday to hear Fire Chief Hagen Champion explain the time-honored custom, what these three new apparatuses mean for the fire department and the community, and an important new feature on the apparatus.
