At tonight’s meeting of the Cartersville City School Board, the board accepted the resignation of board member Floyd Braid. Braid tendered his resignation, effective February 1st, in a letter addressed to Superintendent Marc Feuerbach. Braid, who represented Ward 2 for the past six years, cited recent health concerns and the need to address those as his reason for stepping down. Dr. Feuerbach, said, “Working in the field of education, Mr. Braid has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to his school board position. Our school system has benefited greatly from his service and we wish him the best in the future.”
According to the charter of the City of Cartersville, the school board cannot have two appointed members seated at the same time. Currently, Tim Chason is acting as an appointed member following Linda Benton’s resignation in July 2017. Therefore, a special election will be held to fill both seats. Braid’s term ends in December 2021. Tim Chason announced at tonight’s meeting his intention to run for election in an effort to maintain the appointed seat he holds. The Cartersville City Council will take the action needed to call the election in their regularly scheduled meeting on February 7th.
