From the Cartersville- Bartow County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau

Cartersville, Georgia – Camera-Ready Cartersville is looking forward to seeing many area film locations on screen in theaters and on television this month. Three projects that filmed here in 2012 and 2013 are debuting in March and in May. “We are happy that residents and others who know Cartersville will have an opportunity to see our locations on screen,” said Ellen Archer, Camera-Ready Cartersville administrator and Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau executive Director.
The first project is “The Red Road,” an all-new SundanceTV original series, airing each Thursday at 9 PM EST. The series stars Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Tom Sizemore and Julianne Nicholson. Reviews of the first episodes have been positive. The Associated Press called the series “gripping,” while Hollywood Reporter noted it as “a very well-acted, well-shot and intriguing series.”
Viewers may recognize scenes from Red Top Mountain, River Road, Kingston, Acworth and downtown Cartersville. Archer reported that signs were changed on Cartersville’s historic train depot to set the stage for Walpole, NJ. Scenes were filmed locally in August 2013 with a crew of more than 130.
“Need for Speed” opens in theatres March 14. The Dreamworks Pictures film stars Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mescudi, and Michael Keaton. Viewers may

have a difficult time catching the fast driving scenes filmed on rural roads of western Bartow County for this action-packed drama. The project filmed here in June 2013 with a crew of 175.
In the summer of 2012, the cast and crew of Devil’s Knot rolled into Cartersville to begin filming at the historic 1903 Bartow County Courthouse. With stars Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Stephen Moyer, and Bruce Greenwood on set the scene was quickly abuzz with curious onlookers.
The film is based on a true story, told in Mara Leveritt’s 2002 book of the same name, concerning three teenagers known as the West Memphis Three, who were convicted for killing three young boys and subsequently sentenced to life in prison. The Worldview Entertainment film spent two weeks filming the courtroom trial scenes and pivotal confrontations on the courthouse lawn.
Devil’s Knot, directed by Atom Egoyan, opens in theaters May 9, 2014. Go see the movie to pick out downtown views and even a few local residents who served as extras inside the courtroom.
