The Cartersville Lady Canes finished third in the GHSA Class 5A State Fast Pitch Softball Tournament after a strong playoff run ended Saturday in Columbus.

The Lady Canes opened the double-elimination tournament with two victories. Their season ended with a 4-2 loss to Central-Carroll in an elimination game. Central-Carroll took an early 2-0 lead on a solo home run and an unearned run. Cartersville answered to tie it at 2 before Central-Carroll pulled ahead for good on a two-run homer.

One day earlier, Jefferson became the first Class 5A team to beat the Lady Canes all season, scoring six runs in the seventh inning for an 8-2 win. That loss snapped Cartersville’s 23-game winning streak and dropped the team into the elimination bracket.

The Lady Canes closed the 2026 season at 32-4. The record marks the most wins in school history. They finished 18-0 as region champions and reached the softball tournament for the third time in four years with this senior class.

Head coach Glen Woodard said the team competed at a high level throughout the year and expressed pride in the group’s accomplishments.
