On Sunday night, July 6th, the Cartersville Fire Department swiftly responded to a fire alarm at the Hanwha facility, leading to a significant Hazardous Materials incident.

CFD responded to a fire alarm at 9:16, indicating sprinkler activation at the facility located at 251 Great Valley Parkway. Upon arrival, CFD crews observed smoke emanating from the building. The affected structure housed hazardous materials and was vacant at the time of the Fire Department’s arrival.

As a precaution, CFD initiated a hazardous materials response due to the nature of the materials involved. Firefighters successfully contained the fire and the release of hazardous materials to the building of origin. CFD reports no injuries among civilians or fire personnel. Although smoke was present, crews effectively contained the dangerous materials, and the site was deemed safe from any significant environmental impact.

CFD dispatched a contracted hazardous materials (HazMat) cleanup team to handle mitigation and cleanup efforts. Fire units remained on-site to support the operation and were released for service at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7th. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined and is under investigation.

The Cartersville Fire Department extends its appreciation to all personnel and partnering agencies who assisted in the response, ensuring the safety of the facility and the surrounding community.
