A Bartow County deputy was dispatched to Joe Frank Harris Parkway just north of Old River Road in Cartersville on Thursday morning at around 8:21 in reference to smoke coming from the side of the roadway.

The deputy found two people at a tunnel that goes under Joe Frank Harris Parkway who had a fire burning up against the tunnel wall. Bartow County fire was able to put the fire out.

One of the subjects told the deputy that they were homeless and had been living there for a week. His daughter was asleep in his car and had only been there one night.

CSX Transportation advised they did not want to pursue charges. Georgia Department of Transportation stated they would send an engineer to check the damage to the tunnel. The two subjects followed a Division of Family and Children Services employees to their office.
