The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder which occurred near Cartersville today.
According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, deputies and investigators responded to 307 Iron Belt Court just after 1:00 PM to a report of a man having issues with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The man was armed with a gun. As deputies arrived, a female flagged them down and told them that she had just run from apartment 307 after hearing a gunshot. Deputies then located the man, identified as 32-year-old Truitt Jermaine Cousin of the same address. Cousin was acting extremely strange, screaming profanities and random words. Deputies then located a different 32-year-old man inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim later died at Floyd Medical Center from his injuries.
Sheriff Millsap said that this is an active investigation at this time and as a result, the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. Cousin was taken into custody and is being held at the Bartow County Sheriff’ Office Jail on pending charges. Cousin had no record with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office as he had reportedly just moved to the area.
