Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to a fatal three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Adairsville.
Troopers arrived at the scene around 12:50 p.m. on Joe Frank Harris Parkway at Woody Road. Investigators say a red Toyota Camry was traveling southbound and passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
According to the initial investigation, the Camry driver swerved back into the southbound lane to avoid an oncoming vehicle. The Camry then struck the left rear of a southbound commercial motor vehicle. The impact caused the commercial vehicle’s left rear tire to separate and hit a northbound Kia Optima.
After the collision, the Camry rotated clockwise and overturned multiple times, coming to rest off the east side of the roadway.
The driver of the Toyota, 67-year-old Michael Griffin of Adairsville, died at the scene from his injuries.
Authorities shut down Joe Frank Harris Parkway for approximately two hours while crews worked the crash and investigators gathered evidence. The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
