The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for parts of northern and west central Georgia, effective from Friday at 7:00 a.m. until Saturday at 7:00 a.m.
The NWS expects a wintry mix of precipitation. Snow and sleet accumulations in the mountains could average between three to six inches, with locally higher amounts possible. Further south, along the Interstate 20 corridor, a combination of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain is likely. Snow accumulations of two to four inches and icing amounts around one-tenth of an inch are possible.
Drivers should prepare for slippery road conditions, which may make travel difficult. These hazardous conditions could affect the Friday commute and persist into Saturday morning. Bridges and overpasses could become icy, even if temperatures remain slightly above freezing.
Please monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation, as any small changes in temperature or the weather system’s path could alter the forecasted precipitation types.
