The Woodland Wildcats (3-0, 1-0) met up with the Cass Colonels (1-2, 0-1) on Friday night at Doug Cochran Stadium for an intra-county and region matchup that led to the visiting team grabbing the victory 17-7.

Woodland stalled and after a short punt, it appeared that Cass would get on the scoreboard first. The Colonels were in position for a 24-yard field goal, but the kick was blocked and returned to the Colonels 33-yard line. Eight plays later, Titus Jones punched it in from two yards out to give Woodland a 7-0 lead.

Not to be outdone, the Cass Colonels then put up an impressive drive of their own as several Woodland penalties and a strong running game ended with a Rett Moore 2-yard touchdown run.

Another bad punt from Woodland on its next drive gave Cass the ball in very good field position. The Colonels got all the way to the Woodland 8-yard line, but on a 3rd and 2, Moore fumbled the ball, which was recovered by the Wildcats. Woodland and Cass would not be able to advance the ball against each other for the rest of the game, and they would head into the half tied up at seven.

In the third quarter, the turnover bug would bite Cass again. Following a 3-yard punt by the Wildcats, Moore would fumble the ball two plays later and give Woodland the ball back at the Cass 39-yard line. A long drive on the ground would end with Demarcus Williams scoring from two yards out.

In the fourth quarter, Woodland tacked on a 34-yard field goal by Ronny Ramirez to put the pressure on Cass with 7:01 left in the game. Cass would hold the ball and milk the clock but would not be able to convert a 4th down pass that was batted down by Jayden Ballard.

The Colonels would get one more shot, however. Jakob Foss bobbled the snap in Cass territory and the Colonels would take over. With 2:12 left in the game Moore loaded up a deep ball, but Seth Johnson would pick it off and seal the game for the Wildcats.

Woodland will look to remain undefeated for the 2018 season next week with a home game against Paulding County, while Cass will look for its first region win with a road game against Villa Rica.
