After a big win over Southeast Whitfield on opening night, the Woodland offense struggled out of the gate and was without a point as the first half concluded. Combined with the mental mistakes made in the season’s second game, and not only was without a point, but it was down 21-0. A big second-half comeback was made as Woodland scored the first 20 points of the third quarter, but it was not enough to keep East Hall at bay as the Wildcats fell 34-28.

Perhaps the biggest mental mistake came on a punt. The ball was snapped over the head of the Woodland punter. He retrieved it in his own end zone and tried to pass out of the situation, but it was fumbled. East Hall recovered the ball for a special teams score. It wasn’t the only special teams mishap of the day either. A low, line-drive punt from East Hall hit off the back of a Woodland player downfield and was recovered by the Vikings. The second chance opportunity ended with an East Hall touchdown.

Woodland had two rushing scores from DeMarcus Williams to get the Wildcats going, while Asa James and Noah Tidwell added the other Woodland scores. Woodland had just 60 yards in the first half to go along with a fumble.

Woodland drops to 1-1 on the season and will play the Cass Colonels next week for a region tilt. You can hear the game on bartowsportszone.com as the Johnny’s New York Style Pizza Bartow County Game of the Week.
