CARTERSVILLE, GA. (September 27, 2018) — For the second straight year in a row, Bartow County High Schools bands have captured the first and second place spot in the 2018 Blood Assurance Battle of the Bands competition. Earning the top spot this year with an unprecedented 182 donations, the Woodland High School band earned a $1,500 scholarship. Cass High School came in second place this year earning a $750 scholarship. Combined these two Bartow County high school band programs collected over 300 units of life-saving blood this summer, a historically low time for collections.
“These two schools came together in a collaborative effort to raise awareness and encourage our community to donate,” said Terra Moorehead, Blood Assurance Donor Recruiter. “At a crucial time when blood donations are critically needed, combined these bands collected over 300 units of blood saving over 900 lives. Blood Assurance would like to thank all 300 plus donors and these amazing bands. We would also like to thank Mr Willoughby, Woodland High School Band Director and Mrs Pruitt, Cass High School Band director, for leading these bands in this life-saving venture giving back to their community through blood donation.”
Bartow County’s partnership with Blood Assurance has earned over $7,000 in scholarship money for students and student programs in the last two years. “We count it a true honor to partner with Bartow County schools in an effort to not only serve Cartersville and Bartow County, but to also give back to our students and their programs,” said Mandy Perry, Blood Assurance Community Liaison. “It is truly a win-win for the entire community.”
