Many fans across the state circled Cartersville’s home game against the Allatoona Buccaneers Friday night, due to both teams winning a GHSA Championship in their respective classifications. The Canes won the 4-A title, while the Buccaneers won the 5-A title.

Cartersville immediately showed off its new weapons on Friday night as Trevor Lawrence found E.J. Turner and Avery Showell for the Canes first two touchdowns of the night. Trey Creamer added a rushing touchdown and, before you could blink, the Canes were leading Allatoona by a score of 21-0.

Just before the second half, a Cartersville defensive player made a mistake that cost the Canes 15 yards and led to an eventual Allatoona touchdown to close out the first half 21-14.

Allatoona opened up the second half with a rushing touchdown, which shrunk the lead to seven and the Canes clinging on to a 21-14 lead. That’s as close as Allatoona would get for the rest of the game.

Trevor Lawrence again made a connection with E.J. Turner for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to stretch the lead back to 14. Showell made another key play in the second half, when he recorded a safety for the Canes and pushed the lead to 30-14, which was the final score.

Cartersville (1-0) recorded its first win of the season and will have a bye next week before playing a road game against Calhoun on September 2nd at 7:30 PM.
