The impressive start to the Woodland Wildcats season was stung by the Hiram Hornets on Friday night in a 35-15 defeat.
Woodland scored first on a 21-yard pass from Jakob Foss to Justice Carter to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead with 3:27 left in the first quarter and it appeared that Woodland would be in line for its fifth straight win to start the 2018 campaign. Unfortunately, the Hiram Hornets had other ideas.
The Hornets would put 29 unanswered points on the board against the Wildcats, which had trouble moving the ball on the ground. Woodland would return a kickoff with 10:19 left in the fourth quarter and with 10:19 left in the game, it appeared that Woodland might have some magic left over down just two possessions. On the next Hiram drive, the Hornets would chew five minutes off the clock and take a 35-15 lead, which would be the game’s final score.
Woodland has a daunting task next week as it hosts Rome, a team believed to be one of the best in the state.
