ATHENS, Ga. — “UGA Athletics in Your Town,” a traveling exhibit of historic artifacts from the University of Georgia Athletic Association archives, will be coming to Cartersville, Wednesday, July 29.
The exhibit will be on display at the Cartersville Public Library, from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m.
Among the collection on display will be Georgia football helmets from the 1930’s, 1940’s, and 1980’s, tickets and game day program from the first game in Sanford Stadium, a hand written playbook from the Wally Butts era of the 1950’s, and the ‘Silver Chalice’ from 1894, which is the oldest existing UGA athletics artifact.
Jason Hasty, Athletics History Specialist for the UGA Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library, will bring the collection of historic Georgia Bulldogs athletics artifacts to the library as part of a statewide summer tour across Georgia.
“The UGA Athletic Association archive contains 130 years of the physical history of UGA Athletics,” said Hasty. “This traveling exhibit is a great way to take some of the most interesting artifacts we have in this archive to communities all across Georgia for a fun, family-friendly event.”
These traveling exhibits are free and open to the public. The materials will also be on display on the following dates and locations:
July 30 – Rome-Floyd Public Library, Rome. 11am-4pm
The Hargrett Library, which is located in the Richard B.
