Traffic had to be rerouted due to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 293 and Sorrento Drive early Wednesday morning. According to preliminary reports, a collision occurred between a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Kia K5 sedan. The pickup truck was traveling south on Highway 293 as the Kia was traveling east on Sorrento Drive. The driver of the Kia K5 failed to yield after stopping and pulled out in front of the pickup truck, causing the front of the pickup truck to strike the left side of the Kia. The driver and passengers of the Kia K5 were high school students who were headed to school. The driver of the Kia K5 was extricated and was transported to Kennestone Hospital by EMS, along with both passengers. The driver of the pickup truck sustained visible injuries. The parents of the students and the school police were notified.
