A 2005 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on U.S. 411 in the right lane approaching Alford Road. The driver then entered the left lane, suddenly overcorrected, and caused the vehicle to travel off of the south shoulder of the roadway.

The vehicle rotated and overturned several times before striking a tree on the top driver’s side and coming to an uncontrolled rest against the tree.

The driver, 56-year-old Ronald Jackson of Cartersville, and the passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Chattanooga, were pronounced dead on the scene. The woman’s next of kin has not been notified yet.

Both Jackson and his passenger were entrapped. Medical helicopters were called to the scene before they succumbed to their injuries.

U.S. 411 at this location was shutdown for a lengthy amount of time during the incident.
