A portion of the interstate was shut down Saturday night due to an accident involving street racing.  According to Georgia State Patrol reports, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Post 3 Troopers were advised of multiple vehicles and motorcycle street racing on I-75 northbound near MM278 (Glade Road Acworth). Troopers contacted the vehicles on I-75 North near MM296 (Cass White Road) and activated their emergency equipment to stop the vehicles. The drivers refused to stop and initiated a pursuit. All vehicles and motorcycles began to pass on the left and right shoulder of I-75 North. Troopers were able to keep a black Camaro, a white Camaro, and two motorcycles in his sights. Near mile marker 306 (Adairsville), the rider of a white Kawasaki motorcycle lost control of the motorcycle and left the roadway along the east shoulder. The rider traveled approximately 20 feet on his side and the motorcycle traveled roughly 250 feet without a rider.  The northbound lanes of I-75 northbound were closed at approximately 8:21 p.m. so that Life Force could land and transport the rider to Erlanger Hospital. Troopers were able to locate the other vehicles, which continued on I-75 into Gordon County at mile marker 310 (Union Grove Rd. Calhoun). Charges will be filed in Bartow and Gordon Counties for felony fleeing, DUI and other traffic-related offenses.
