SPONSOR SCHOOL TAX EXEMPTION LEGISLATION
FOR BARTOW COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS

 

ATLANTA, GA — Representatives Mitchell Scoggins (GA-14), Trey Kelley (GA-16), and
Matthew Gambill (GA-15) have sponsored a bill that would provide tiered homestead
exemptions for senior citizens in Bartow County. As part of the bill, Bartow County residents 65
years of age or older would qualify for a $60,000 exemption of the assessed value of the
homestead, residents 75 years of age or older would be eligible for an $80,000 exemption of the
assessed value of the homestead, and residents 80 years of age or older would qualify for an
exemption for the full amount of the assessed value of the homestead for the first $500,000 of
assessed value. If passed, the bill will require a referendum on the November 2022 ballot and
could go into effect as early as January 1, 2023.
