The Cass Colonels (1-4, 0-3) fell to one of the best teams in the state of Georgia on Friday night by a score of 49-14 to the Rome Wolves.
The Colonels trailed 35-0 after the first half but can take some solace in scoring two second-half touchdowns in hopes that the offense can build off of that in the coming weeks.
The Rome defense held Cass to just 59 yards in the first half with two turnovers, while Rome’s offense racked up 289 yards and turned the ball over just once. That one turnover was a fumble, which was recovered by Blake Carrington.
Knox Kadum, Jamious Griffin and Traceton Lawerence were responsible for six of Rome’s seven touchdowns on Friday night.
Cass got on the scoreboard with a 50-yard touchdown pass from Logan Nelson to Malik Grimes with 4:19 left in the third quarter. With 5:30 left in the fourth quarter, Nic Wallin threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Javen Bridges to cut into the Rome lead, but that is as far as Cass would go.
The Colonels will look to grab its first region win next week, but it will have to come against another formidable foe in Carrollton, which is thought to be one of the top five teams in Class 5-A.
