Over the past few days, The Adairsville Police Department has received several reports of fraudulent phone calls as someone posing as an agent of the Federal Government. These individuals are calling and stating that you are wanted for back taxes owed to the IRS and they have warrants for your arrest. They are asking that you purchase gift cards and call them back with the number on the back of the gift card. This is a scam. Please remember that the IRS will not contact you by phone, use caution if you receive a phone call of this nature. If you think this or any other phone call is suspicious, write the information down, including names and numbers and contact your local law enforcement agency. Always use extreme caution on any unsolicited pay-by-phone type activity. Your local Law Enforcement Agency will be glad to assist you with questions regarding these types of incidents.
