After falling in Game 1 against the Jefferson Dragons, the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes took advantage of seven walks, two hit batters, and seven Dragon errors to force a Game 3 on Wednesday after Game 2’s 9-3 victory.

With its back against the wall, Cartersville sent its star player Anthony Seigler on the mound. The senior answered the bell as he tossed five innings left-handed (his first game pitching left-handed since March 9th), allowing two runs and six strikeouts to earn the pitching win.

Cartersville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Seigler was hit by a pitch and scored on Jake Gooch’s two-out double.

Jefferson got the run back int he top half of the second, but Cartersville answered in the bottom half. Jordan Wilkie and JP Martin started the inning with back-to-back walks and scored on RBI singles from Ian Inaba and Preston Welchel. From there, it was all Cartersville.

Josh Davis reached base three times via walks, while Brant Smith added an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth.

Gage Morris pitched the final two innings for the Canes allowing one run with one strikeout.

The game time for Wednesday will not be decided until the outcome of tomorrow’s doubleheader between Allatoona and Pope. Should the teams split tomorrow, Cartersville will play at 5:00 PM Wednesday. If one team sweeps, then Cartersville will play at 7 PM.

Coach Kyle Tucker said that they would use this time to regroup and give Devin Warner, who was injured in the first inning of Game 1, some extra rest for his shoulder.
