canes_logoThe Cartersville Purple Hurricanes advanced to the third round of the of AAA Baseball State Playoffs on Wednesday night, when they swept two games from the Woodward Academy War Eagles. The Canes were led by their strong pitching in both 5-1 and 11-4 victories over their opponent. Garrett Rutledge threw a complete game three-hitter, while Elliott Anderson threw five strong innings and limited the War Eagles to just four hits, while striking out seven. The Canes next opponent will be the Callaway Cavaliers on Tuesday, and will air on AM 1450 WBHF.

Not all was well for Cartersville playoff teams on Wednesday, as the Lady Canes soccer team fell to Decatur 4-0. The Canes trailed at halftime 1-0, but were unable to get past a tough Decatur squad. The future looks bright for the Lady Canes, who do not have much turnover for next season. They ended their season with a 15-4 record, which was good for the No. 2 seed in Region 5-AAA.
