Cartersville won an impressive season opener Tuesday night at 8th-ranked Johns Creek. Anthony Seigler played an important role on the mound and at the plate as the Hurricanes edged the Gladiators, 4-3. Seigler lined a home run over the wall in left field for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Johns Creek answered with a run in the third inning and another in the fourth to go up 2-1. Cartersville responded with two more runs in the fifth to retake the lead 3-2 and added another run in the sixth. Cartersville is now 1-0 on the season

 

The Woodland baseball team scored in every frame after the first and posted 13 runs on eight hits in a five-inning win Tuesday 13-1 at Armuchee. Woodland took an 8-0 lead in the top of the third inning and later added a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning for a mercy-rule win. Woodland is now 2-0 on the season.

 

Cass pitchers Cody Johnson, Jake Collum, and Zach Yancey combined on a two-hitter Tuesday at Rockmart, the ninth-ranked team in AA, 2-1 in the Colonels’ season opener. Rockmart opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning, but Cass tied the game in the fourth. Cass got the go-ahead and eventual winning run in the top of the sixth. The Colonels are now 1-0 on the season.

 

The Georgia Highlands baseball team snapped a four-game skid Tuesday night with a 9-4 win over Bryant & Stratton College. John White went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, scored three times and drew a walk to lead the Chargers at the plate. Georgia Highlands is now 3-4 on the season.
